Bawumia Urges NPP Unity After Internal Elections

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia called on the New Patriotic Party to unite after the party’s national executive elections, saying the internal contests were over and the focus must shift to the 2028 general election.

Speaking after the National Delegates Conference on Sunday, Bawumia congratulated the newly elected national executives led by Chairman John Boadu. He said the completion of the internal elections marked the start of preparations for the next general election and that those who did not win should not feel excluded from the campaign machinery.

“And for those who did not win, I must let you know that it is not about winning. Who won? The NPP won this election. You did not lose. The MPP won,” he said, assuring all contestants they would have a role in the 2028 campaign.

Bawumia stressed that the party’s immediate priority is to begin preparations for 2028 without delay, urging members to close ranks and work together. “Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory,” he said.

He warned that the 2028 contest would require sustained effort, saying, “It will not be an easy election. We will have to take power, and in taking power, it means we will have to work hard, hard and hard.” He urged the new leadership to start work immediately, calling for a meeting this week to devise strategies for capturing power in 2028.

As the NPP moves forward, Bawumia’s message underscores the party’s intent to present a united front in the coming election, hoping to consolidate support across all factions.
