The people of Asogli in the Volta Region marked the arrival of the new yam on Friday, September 25, with a massive carnival procession that swept through the streets of Ho. The parade began at the Ho Central Market and continued into the afternoon, culminating at the Ho Sports Stadium where music and dancing carried on into the night.
Following the procession, the next day the community gathered across all four Asogli divisions – Ho, Kpenoe, Takla, and Akoefe – to feast on the new yam. The 2026 Te Za celebration, themed “United in Purpose, Investing in People and Infrastructure for Sustainable National Development,” also featured a range of other activities, including a Galenkui Mountain exploration, an auto show, the Asogli Marathon, an Anti‑Corruption Forum, Choral Music Day, an Adaklu Mountain trek, the Volta Economic Forum, and the Borborbor event.
International visitors from the United States, United Kingdom and other countries joined the festivities. A summit of Ewe Chiefs from Ghana, Togo and Benin is scheduled for October 1, followed by a state dinner and awards night. The festival will reach its climax with a grand durbar at Ho Jubilee Park on October 3.
