Akra Reads! 2026: Accra Celebrates Literary Heritage at Korle Gonno

The Ghana Reads Initiative, working with the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), will launch the 2026 edition of Akra Reads! on Wednesday, October 7, at the Korle Gonno Community Library. The one‑day festival aims to promote reading and celebrate Accra’s literary heritage.

Participants will include writers, students, readers and other literary enthusiasts. Activities will feature book exhibitions, reading sessions, a students’ poetry contest, and interactive experiences such as Read n’ Chat with Linda Ampah, the Yumvita Read Challenge, Read n’ Bounce, and Blast a Balloon n’ Read.

The highlight will be the Ladé Wosornu Students Poetry Contest, a pilot under the JUS initiative. Organisers expect more than 300 people to attend, with the program kicking off at 10 a.m.

The festival is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s book industry and foster a leisure‑reading culture among young people. CAA sees Akra Reads! as a potential annual event that could later expand to other regions, positioning Accra as a literary and cultural destination.
