Abanga Fusaini Yakubu, who won the National Youth Organiser seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on October 3, 2026, declared he would never share the party’s strategies with his twin brother, Hassan Abanga, an NDC vice chairman. The statement came during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, October 6.
Abanga said his family’s differing political loyalties have never shaken his commitment to the NPP. He noted that while his mother is an NPP member, his father and twin brother belong to the NDC. The family has agreed to keep politics out of gatherings to avoid conflict.
“I love the NPP, so whoever knows me can testify to my loyalty to the New Patriotic Party,” he said. “If somebody should come and tell you I will expose my political strategies and ideas to the NDC, it doesn’t make sense.”
He added that he has served the NPP wholeheartedly since 2014 and will continue to contribute to its growth. “Obia b3didi’ brand is not a small brand. It’s a very big brand; if I’m able to manage it well, one day the party people will lift me,” he said.
In the national executive elections held at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Abanga secured 1,550 votes, defeating five other aspirants: Clement Opoku Gyamfi (631 votes), Michael Osei Boateng (78), Vera Oye Bram‑Larbi (44), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah (46) and Alfred Kumi Ababio (25). The victory cemented his position as the party’s newest youth leader.
Abanga’s stance underscores the deep political divide that can exist even within families, while reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP’s platform and future ambitions.
