Sixty‑six young people in Tema, Ghana, received hands‑on exposure to the labour market through a career fair and workplace visit organised by SOS Children’s Villages with support from DHL’s GoTeach partnership. The five‑day employability and entrepreneurial skills boot camp, themed “Equipping Young People with the Right Skill Sets for a Better Future,” brought together 38 males and 28 females to learn practical skills that bridge tertiary education and employment.

During the career fair, representatives from DHL, AmaliTech, Ajike and Africa ICT Right engaged participants on career development, workplace expectations and professional growth. Attendees asked questions, sought guidance and gained insight into industry realities, while learning the importance of professional communication, conduct, continuous skill development and networking.

“Giving young people the opportunity to interact with professionals and experience the workplace helps them connect what they learn in the classroom with the realities of the world of work,” said Mr Godknows Kporha, Youth Development Advisor at SOS Children’s Villages Ghana. He added that the exposure helped participants understand employer expectations, professional conduct and the skills required to succeed in different environments, encouraging them to take ownership of their career journeys.

Participants also toured the Blow Group of Companies’ beverage production facility, observing production and distribution stages and interacting with staff to learn about roles and responsibilities within a professional setting. The visit complemented training on goal setting, decision‑making, time management, financial management, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, communication, public speaking, leadership, CV writing, job searching and interview skills.

The programme is part of SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana Youth Development Programme, which aims to equip young people with the confidence and capabilities needed for independent, productive lives. Through GoTeach, DHL supports youth development initiatives focused on mentoring, coaching, career exposure, networking, internships and workplace opportunities.

As the boot camp concludes, participants are expected to apply their newly acquired skills in job searches, entrepreneurial ventures and further education, while the partnership continues to seek additional avenues for youth empowerment.
