Zoomlion Ghana Limited has begun a region‑wide fumigation and disinfection exercise in the North East Region, targeting hospitals, schools, markets, public toilets and other high‑traffic facilities. The campaign, carried out in partnership with Municipal and District Assemblies, aims to strengthen environmental sanitation and reduce the risk of diseases such as cholera, malaria and typhoid.
Major communities involved include Walewale, Nalerigu, Gambaga, Bunkprugu, Chereponi, Yagaba‑Kubori and Yunyoo‑Nansua. Facilities covered range from hospitals and CHPS compounds to market centres, government bungalows and lorry parks.
Abdulai Safian, Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, said the company’s participation demonstrates its commitment to supporting government institutions and local authorities in addressing Ghana’s sanitation challenges. “At Zoomlion, we believe that environmental sanitation is fundamental to public health and national development,” Safian said.
He added that while fumigation and disinfection are important, their impact would be enhanced when communities adopt responsible hygiene practices. “The sustainability of these interventions requires collective action,” he added.
Representing the West Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Rabiu Jabbah, Municipal Environmental Health Officer Faustinus Anchamba described the exercise as an important component of the municipality’s broader environmental health strategy. He urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and observe proper hygiene practices.
Regional Environmental Health Director Osuman Alebira noted that while the National Sanitation Day programme has improved conditions, sustaining these gains will require continuous investment and stronger collaboration among stakeholders. He called for the development of a sustainable sanitation system capable of maintaining clean communities year‑round.
Residents in the beneficiary communities have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that it will make public spaces safer and healthier. The exercise is especially significant in densely populated areas where poor environmental conditions can heighten public health risks.
Zoomlion’s intervention underscores the importance of public‑private collaboration in tackling Ghana’s sanitation challenges. The company maintains that sustainable environmental sanitation requires a coordinated approach involving government institutions, local authorities, private‑sector service providers and, most importantly, the communities themselves.
