The Central Regional Vetting Committee received a petition on Thursday, September 24, from Yusif Yunusah, husband of Awutu Senya East MP Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor. Yunusah, who serves as NDC New York State Treasurer and former Greater Accra Regional Propaganda Secretary, seeks to disqualify Cobby Wilson, the constituency’s Deputy Communications Officer, from contesting the upcoming internal elections.
In the petition Yunusah alleges that Wilson made unfounded accusations against the MP and sent him private messages containing insults. He also claims Wilson publicly alleged that the MP secured a World Cup slot for Yunusah’s husband, a claim that NDC leadership in Parliament has since debunked. Yunusah says these actions violate Article 48(8)(b), (c) and (e) of the party constitution, which cover anti‑party conduct, propaganda that brings the party into ridicule, and misconduct or breach of duty by a party officer.
Yunusah argues that Wilson’s conduct renders him unfit to hold party office and requests the vetting committee to disqualify him from the constituency elections. The petition follows the suspension of constituency chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare for five months in July 2026 after a petition filed by the MP.
