The World Bank has kept its 2026 growth forecast for Ghana unchanged at 4.8%, as revealed in the October 2026 Africa Economic Update. The institution also projects a 4.9% GDP expansion for 2027.

According to the report, the economy will be powered by a robust services sector, a rebound in oil and gas activities, and continued momentum from structural and fiscal reforms under national programmes.

In the second quarter of 2026, real GDP grew 6.0% year‑on‑year, slightly below the 6.6% recorded in the same period of 2025. Domestic demand and investment were key drivers, with investment surging 53.0% and domestic demand rising 11.2%.

Services led the way, expanding 8.0% and contributing nearly three‑fifths of overall growth. ICT activity jumped 30.9%, while industrial growth climbed to 4.3% from 2.4% a year earlier, buoyed by a sharp rise in oil and gas production. Agriculture, however, slowed to 3.9% from 7.1%, largely due to a steep contraction in fishing.

The World Bank noted that growth remained concentrated in services, ICT and hydrocarbons, with weaker momentum in other non‑oil sectors.

Regionally, West and Central Africa is expected to grow at 4.5% in 2026, holding steady from 2025, before easing to an average of 4.7% in 2027‑28. Excluding Nigeria, sub‑regional growth is projected to moderate from 5.4% in 2025 to 5.0% in 2026, then recover to 5.3% in 2027‑28.

Sub‑Saharan Africa’s growth is forecast at 4.3% in 2026, though its poverty‑reducing impact is likely to remain limited.

The World Bank’s outlook underscores the importance of sustaining reforms and leveraging the services and hydrocarbons sectors to maintain Ghana’s growth trajectory.
