Zoomlion Ghana Limited, together with the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, has started a disinfection and disinfestation exercise across the municipality following the June 2026 floods. The operation targets markets, lorry parks, institutions, container sites and other high‑traffic public places to reduce environmental and public health risks linked to stagnant water and contaminated surroundings.
Speaking at the launch, Zoomlion’s Savannah Regional Manager Ishmael Ashitey explained that the initiative is part of a nationwide programme carried out with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies. He noted that the heavy rains in West Gonja created conditions favourable to the spread of insects and disease vectors, heightening the threat of water‑borne illnesses such as cholera.

“The objective is to support the Assembly in protecting residents and reducing environmental health risks that may arise after the floods, particularly the threat of diseases such as cholera,” Ashitey said.

West Gonja’s Municipal Chief Executive Yakubu Yussif Castro praised the partnership, highlighting that although the flood impact was relatively mild compared with other regions, stagnant water remains a breeding ground for disease vectors. He urged residents to take responsibility for sanitation by properly disposing of solid waste and using community waste containers.
The Assembly will continue to educate residents on proper sanitation practices and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to address environmental health challenges. The disinfection exercise is expected to lower risks in key public spaces while reinforcing the need for ongoing community cleanliness.
