Nigerian gospel singer and worship leader Victoria Orenze publicly rebuked members of her congregation who were filming her during a ministration, demanding they put their phones away and concentrate on worshiping God.

In a video that has circulated online, Orenze is seen addressing the group, saying, "Don't use your phone. I will send you far away from here. You don't know how to respect God. Everything is about recording, yet you have nothing inside." She added, "Do you record yourself while making love? Go to the club and record."

The singer, known for her prayer‑centred performances and hits such as "Covenant Keeping God," "Spirit Chant" and "I Get Backing," expressed frustration that the congregation’s focus on capturing the moment detracted from active participation in the worship session.

Orenze’s remarks have sparked discussion about the growing trend of filming church services, with smartphones and social media making it easy for attendees to record and share religious moments. While some argue that recording preserves memories, the artist highlighted concerns that the practice can distract worshippers from being fully present.

Her comments come amid a broader debate over the role of technology in faith communities, as more churches grapple with balancing tradition and modernity in worship settings.
