The Upper East Region is set to begin construction on a multi‑purpose sports stadium before the end of 2026, a move the government says will boost youth development, nurture sporting talent and attract investment.
According to the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugri, a technical team will soon visit the region to assess a proposed site and determine its suitability for the planned facilities.
The new complex is expected to accommodate athletics, boxing, volleyball and indoor games, providing young people with opportunities to develop their talents and pursue careers in sports.
Mr Akamugri told reporters that sporting activities are no longer just entertainment; they are a source of employment and an avenue for investors to come and invest.
He urged residents to ensure that, when completed, the stadium is used for its intended purpose of developing sporting talent and advancing the region’s development, warning against using the facility for unrelated purposes.
Expressing optimism, the minister said the stadium would create new opportunities for young people while positioning the Upper East Region to attract investment in the sports sector.
