UG Launches Alex A. Dadey Centre to Honor Veteran Educator

The University of Ghana (UG) opened the Alex A. Dadey Centre on its Legon campus on Friday, October 23, 2026, in partnership with the University of Ghana Alumni Association (UGAA). The facility, named after the late Dr. Alexander Apau Dadey Snr., a former student, council member and national education leader, will be funded for the next two decades by the KGL Foundation.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo highlighted Dr. Dadey’s tenure on UG’s governing council from 1978 to 1985 and his mentorship under Professor Alexander Kwapong. He also noted the former educator’s roles as National Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), as well as his headmasterships at Achimota Senior High School and Okuapeman Senior High School.

Alex Apau Dadey, Founder and Executive Chairman of the KGL Group of Companies, spoke about his father’s principles of discipline, integrity and public service. He said, “He regarded education not merely as a route to personal success but as a tool for transforming individuals, society and national development.” Mr. Dadey added that the KGL Foundation’s philanthropic vision stems from his father’s belief that wealth creation and distribution are two sides of the same coin.

The KGL Foundation plans to launch several projects in the coming months, including a 250‑seat technology centre at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, a sports complex for Mfantsipim Senior High School, and a diagnostic centre at Greater Accra Regional Hospital in partnership with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. In Kumasi, the foundation is building the KGL Eve Medical Centre at KNUST Medical Village, offering women’s wellness, mental health and general medical services.

Beyond infrastructure, the foundation supports Ghana’s national football teams, juvenile football, the Ghana Football Association, and scholarships for thousands of students.

UG’s commitment to the Alex A. Dadey Centre reflects a broader effort to honour a legacy that shaped generations of educators and leaders across Ghana.
