Joshua Ansah, TUC Secretary‑General, confirmed the union’s support for the CRC’s proposal to vest Ghana’s lands in the people during a press briefing on Tuesday. The reform aims to improve land and natural resource management and address long‑standing concerns over their administration.
The TUC echoed the CRC’s broad recommendations for a legal framework overhaul, stating,
"The TUC agrees with the recommendation to vest our lands in the people of Ghana and not a President,"the union added. It also backed the suggested restructuring of the Lands Commission, urging it to become the primary constitutional trustee and manager of the country’s lands.
While the government has rejected all CRC land recommendations, the TUC criticised the decision as odd, noting the historical and contemporary issues that plague land governance. "Given all the historical and contemporary concerns over our lands and natural resources, Government finds no value in all the recommendations by the CRC," Ansah said.
Moving forward, the TUC will monitor the government’s response and continue to advocate for reforms that place land stewardship in the hands of Ghanaians. The union’s stance underscores the urgency of revisiting land policy to safeguard national resources and promote equitable management.
