The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have jointly filed a formal request with the Ministry of Transport to review public transport fares in line with established administrative procedures.
The request, submitted as part of the consultative framework used to determine and review fares, takes into account the various costs associated with commercial road transport operations.
Both bodies said discussions with the ministry are expected to start soon, after which any decision on fare adjustments will be communicated to the public.

They urged drivers, transport owners, station masters and commuters to remain calm while the consultation process unfolds.
"We wish to assure the general public that engagement will soon commence with the Ministry of Transport and the outcome will be communicated in due course," the joint statement read.
The GPRTU and GRTCC further appealed to all stakeholders in the transport sector and the public to await the outcome of the discussions before taking any action regarding transport fares.
