Actor Timini Egbuson admitted on X that his earlier skepticism toward YouTube movies might have left him hungry, saying, “Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now.”
The comment comes amid a shift in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, where actors and filmmakers increasingly turn to YouTube to reach audiences and generate revenue, especially as global streaming services pull back.
Timini, who has since appeared in several YouTube productions, now embraces the platform’s growing market, adding to his work across Nollywood’s film and streaming landscape.
Traditionally, Nollywood actors have favoured cinema releases, viewing them as more prestigious and lucrative. However, the rise of online films is gradually changing industry attitudes, with YouTube offering easier access to viewers and lower distribution barriers.
Industry observers note that the success of YouTube movies is reshaping perceptions, encouraging more talent to explore digital avenues.
