In a move to bridge the digital divide, Dr Gideon Boako, the Member of Parliament for Tano North, today revealed plans to launch the MP’s Constituency WiFi project, offering free internet connectivity to residents within designated coverage areas. The initiative is designed to benefit youth, students, traders and entrepreneurs who rely on online resources for education, business and communication.
Boako explained that the project stems from his personal experience with education and his desire to make life easier for constituents. "I want to do what can help you make things easier for you because I know if not for education, I wouldn’t be where I am today," the MP said. He highlighted the challenges students face during school vacations when they lack access to school facilities and must purchase data to keep up with digital learning.
The MP emphasized that the free WiFi will not be limited to students; anyone within the network’s catchment area will be able to use the service at no cost. "By the grace of God, I know we have a lot of communities within the Tano North constituency. I am coming up with the MP’s Constituency WiFi, and everyone within the internet catchment can use it for free without paying anything," he added.
Local traders and young entrepreneurs are expected to benefit from the new service, gaining easier access to online business opportunities and information. The project aims to create a more inclusive digital environment that supports education, commerce and community communication.
As the MP moves forward with the plan, residents and stakeholders will watch closely to see how the free WiFi rollout is implemented and how it impacts daily life in Tano North.
