Star Oil Ghana has donated GH¢1 million to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to support the construction of a three‑storey facility that will house detention cells, offices, interrogation rooms and other operational spaces.
Chief Executive Officer Philip Kwame Tieku said the contribution recognised the police’s support in addressing security challenges across the company’s more than 280 locations nationwide, many of which use a remote security monitoring system backed by the CID.
The partnership has helped Star Oil reduce security costs, especially at lower‑risk sites where physical guards are less necessary, Tieku explained. He added that the donation was intended to support the CID’s infrastructure needs in recognition of the benefits the company derives from the collaboration.

"The CID has been very, very supportive in that effort. They have assisted us in almost every situation that comes up," Tieku said. "We have been able to operate a remote security monitoring system supported by the CID, which enables the police to respond promptly to incidents at our fuel stations and reduces our reliance on physical security personnel at some locations."
Director‑General of the CID, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, thanked Star Oil for the donation, noting it would help sustain the project. She said the headquarters previously lacked a dedicated detention and interrogation facility, forcing officers to transfer arrested persons to other stations and adding pressure on those facilities.

Construction of the facility began in August after heavy seasonal rains subsided, and the project is estimated to cost GH¢11 million and be completed within a year, provided resources remain available, site contractor David Mawuli said. The ground floor will contain eight detention cells for male and female suspects and a separate cell for juveniles; the first and second floors will house offices, interrogation rooms and IT units; the third floor will have a cafeteria. The building will also feature an elevator, a main staircase and an emergency exit staircase.
Tieku said the GH¢1 million contribution was an initial donation and that Star Oil could provide further assistance depending on the level of support mobilised from other corporate entities. The company will continue to support the project if additional resources become available.
Star Oil’s donation comes as the company seeks to strengthen its partnership with the police, which has helped improve safety at its service stations while reducing security costs.
