The St. Joseph the Worker Co‑operative Credit Union announced a milestone of 44,800 clients as of 2025, marking significant growth in its asset base, savings, shares, loan portfolio and surpluses. The institution is now the third‑largest credit union in the Ashanti Region and 19th nationwide, according to the Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association.
At the 27th Annual General Meeting held in Mamponteng, Kwabre East Municipality, Board Chairman Dr. Robert Kusi Acheampong praised members for their savings culture but urged them to strengthen share capital. He called for more members to meet the minimum share requirement, noting that a cooperative model centred on members is key to success.
“Members should move from just savings to acquiring shares in the Union to enable them to become full members and enjoy the benefits of ownership,” he said.

The chairman also appealed to borrowers to honour loan repayments to avoid legal action, while General Manager Ms. Shirley Serwaa Bernie highlighted the union’s commitment to financial literacy and responsible saving habits. She added that the union would continue to strengthen services and support members in their pursuit of financial independence.
To reward active members, the union distributed television sets during the meeting. The credit union remains a trusted partner, helping families expand businesses, finance education, build homes and meet emergency needs without undue strain.
As economic challenges persist, the union stressed the importance of share acquisition and savings as tools for building financial resilience and securing future opportunities.
