On JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, accused the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) of publishing a report riddled with errors that may affect its findings. Aboagye said he had identified 19 mistakes, including contradictory figures, misaligned columns and inconsistent profit numbers attributed to state‑owned enterprises.
He acknowledged that SIGA has improved its reporting quality over the years, but argued that the presentation of data in the current document still contains flaws. “If you misalign a column, it will affect your conclusion,” he warned.
Aboagye pointed to specific inconsistencies, such as the YEA figure appearing as 90.6 in one section and 906 in another, and variations in profit figures from the Volta River Authority. He said the errors could lead analysts to draw unsupported conclusions.
While SIGA’s Director General, Prof. Michael Kpessa‑Whyte, defended the figures as sourced from audited accounts, Aboagye insisted that the analysis and presentation must also be scrutinised. He urged the authority to remain calm and avoid making unsubstantiated claims on television.
He added that the 19 errors he listed were not exhaustive and that more could be found upon closer examination.
The Bawumia campaign maintains that its criticism is aimed at improving transparency, not discrediting SIGA. The debate highlights the importance of accurate data handling in government reporting.
