Sarkodie took to X to thank President John Dramani Mahama for steering Ghana away from a health compact the rapper described as humiliating. The agreement, presented to Cabinet, would have obliged Ghana to provide the United States with its pathogen profile and medical records, and to allow U.S. medical products to enter the country without inspection by the Food and Drug Authority.
In a recent interview, President Mahama explained the concerns that led to the rejection, noting that the compact demanded financial contributions and access to sensitive health information. He said, “I mean, who takes another country's medical records? And then it says we would have to put up a certain amount of money as part of the programme into healthcare. And then it also says that any medications or any medical products that shall be brought into our country, our Food and Drug Authority has absolutely no right to inspect. I mean, it was humiliating.”
Responding to the president’s remarks, Sarkodie wrote, “Thank you, Mr President … Hopefully, one day, we gain back the full respect deserved.” He urged greater respect for Ghana from the United States and other Western nations.
