Sammy Crabbe Clarifies He Has Not Withdrew, Remains on NPP Ballot

Sammy Crabbe, a leading contender for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party, has confirmed that his recent alliance with fellow candidate John Boadu does not equate to a withdrawal from the race. Crabbe stated that his name and picture remain on the ballot for the party’s national elections and that supporters may still vote for him, although he is encouraging them to back Boadu as part of their agreement.

According to Crabbe, the partnership followed several days of discussions with Boadu about how to combine their strengths and pursue their respective political programmes. He said the decision was reached after consultations with his campaign team, culminating in a final meeting on Saturday, October 3, where the terms of the alliance were agreed and signed.

Crabbe stressed that the arrangement should not be interpreted as a formal withdrawal from the chairmanship contest. “No. So my name is still on. My picture is still on. You can go and still vote for me,” he said. Asked whether he was therefore asking his supporters not to vote for him, Crabbe said his supporters could effectively advance his campaign programmes by voting for Boadu. “I’m telling them that if they vote for John, they’ll be voting for the programmes I came around with. We are in an alliance,” he added.

He explained that the timing of the agreement made it impossible to remove his name and photograph from the ballot. “At the time that we were sitting down, we were finalizing; it was too late to say, I withdraw, so don’t put my name and face on the ballot. It was too late. So we needed to describe what we’re doing,” Crabbe said.

Under the alliance, Boadu would lead the party as national chairman while supporting the programmes and commitments agreed between the two camps. “Truly, we’re creating an alliance. An alliance where when he goes in there, everybody knows that I come along with him and then I will be supporting him,” Crabbe said.

The NPP is holding its national elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with delegates voting to elect new national officers of the party.
