FC Samartex 1996 opened the Ghana Premier League 2026/27 campaign with a 3–1 triumph over Karela United at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Edwin scored the opening goal in the 39th minute, giving the Timber Giants an early advantage. Afful doubled the lead shortly after the restart, before Sowah added a third in the 69th minute to cement Samartex’s control of the match. Karela United managed a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 84th minute, but it was too little, too late.
The result lifts Samartex to third place on the table after the opening game, while Karela United will host Bechem United in their next fixture. Samartex will travel to face Aduana in their forthcoming league match.
