Real Madrid has demanded the immediate resignation of La Liga president Javier Tebas after the official compared the club’s communication methods to those used by Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels. Tebas, who also serves as vice‑president of the Spanish Football Association, said that Real Madrid’s use of its in‑house TV channel and public messaging “recalls propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels”.

The club described the comments as “deeply offensive” and “morally repugnant”, adding that Tebas’ remarks were “absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious”. Real Madrid also called for Tebas to step down from both his La Liga and RFEF roles. In a lengthy post on X, Tebas explained that the club’s media “directs an orchestra of mouthpieces” and that their messaging “recalls propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels” in terms of systematic repetition, construction of an enemy and subordination of facts to a narrative. He later clarified that he was comparing propaganda techniques, not an ideology, but the club said the clarification did not mitigate the “institutionally unworthy nature” of the statements.

Real Madrid said the comments were part of a “repeated attacks” by Tebas against the club, its president Florentino Pérez and its media outlets. Tebas has previously criticised the club over alleged refereeing conspiracies and its 2021 European Super League proposal. The club’s demand for resignation follows a pattern of escalating tensions between the club and the league’s leadership.

What follows is a formal letter from Real Madrid to the Spanish FA requesting Tebas’ resignation, with the club warning that further inflammatory remarks could lead to legal action. The situation remains under close scrutiny as both the club and league officials prepare to respond to the escalating dispute.
