President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the boards of nine state institutions, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) and the Ghana Post Company Limited.
The dissolution also affects the boards of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited and the National Sports Authority.
The affected institutions are expected to continue their operations under their respective management teams until new boards are appointed.
A letter from the Office of the President, dated September 2, 2026 and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, said the President had directed the dissolution of the boards with immediate effect.
It directed the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to give effect to the decision and formally notify members of the dissolved boards.
It said the management teams of the affected institutions would continue to oversee day-to-day operations under the supervision of their respective sector ministries pending the reconstitution of the boards. The management teams, the letter said, would not be permitted to take major policy, financial or contractual decisions requiring board approval without prior authorisation from the appropriate authority.
Dr Mahama said the boards "will be reconstituted in due course" and conveyed the President's appreciation to the outgoing board members for their service.
Among the outgoing boards, BOST was chaired by Prof. Saint Kuttu, with members including Delphina Jones, Allister Otoo, Ludwig Hlodze, Albert Tibe Anarwat, Atchere Asuah-Kwasi, Bright Dorgbefu and Charles Asiedu. VALCO's board was led by Amb. Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, alongside Yusif Sulemana, Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, Kofi Arko Nokoe, Lawrencia Abena Wurah, Joshua Bawa Nyambika, Ibrahim Yakubu Bingle and Abdul Nasser Adam.
CBG's dissolved board was chaired by Ernest Mawuli Agbesi, with Dr Sa-ad Iddrisu, Immaculate Kawe Kanlisi, Dr Irene Ackuaku, Stephen Kpordzih, David Adom, Michael Kwasi Anyamesem and John Alexander Ackon as members. The Road Maintenance Trust Fund board, chaired by former Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways Isaac Adjei Mensah, included representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Attorney-General's Office, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Local Government Ministry, Parliament, civil society, the Association of Road Contractors, and professional engineering and surveying bodies.
TDC Ghana's board, chaired by Tema East MP Isaac Ashai Odamtten, included Awal Adam, Abdul Gafaru Ali, Ebenezer Sam, Barbara L. Ayesu, Patience Ankamah Addo and Elliot Gordor. GNPC's outgoing board was chaired by Prof. Joseph Oteng-Adjei, with Yoo Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, Seidu Alhassan Alajor, Mawutor Agbavitor and Kwame Jantuah as members.
