Bernard Bediako Baidoo, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, defended President John Mahama’s recent move to dissolve and reconstitute a number of state‑appointed boards, insisting that the action should not be interpreted as evidence of indiscipline among the appointees.
Baidoo said the president, who had appointed the officials in question, has the authority to remove them as part of his efforts to push forward the administration’s agenda. “The President, having appointed the affected officials, has the mandate to remove them as part of his efforts to execute his administration’s agenda,” he stated.
He cautioned against linking the board shake‑up to the president’s repeated calls for discipline among government appointees. “I’m saying that it is also wrong at this point, or misleading, to link this caution to the dissolution…,” Baidoo remarked. The MP added that while concerns about governance and conduct may warrant “some cleaning” within state institutions, the president had not publicly tied the changes to any misconduct.
Baidoo highlighted that President Mahama’s reminders of discipline and commitment to public service are appropriate, but should not be conflated with the reasons for the board changes. He urged that any political claims surrounding the moves be properly substantiated before being presented as fact.
The MP concluded that the president must be allowed to make decisions he deems necessary to achieve the administration’s objectives, and that observers should avoid drawing premature conclusions about the motives behind the board restructuring.
