Forty‑five‑year‑old Adiza Ibrahim of Prang in the Pru East District has taken home a staggering GH¢1 million as the first grand prize winner of Telecel Ghana’s M'Ahitti Promo.
The journey began when Ibrahim’s daughter used her mother’s phone to dial *500# and enter the draw. Weeks later, a call informed the family that Ibrahim had won a prize, but the news was met with suspicion. “We initially suspected the call could be from fraudsters,” the daughter said, citing the prevalence of mobile‑money scams in the country.
Only when Telecel officially presented the GH¢1 million did the family’s doubts evaporate. Aneth Muga, Consumer Business Director at Telecel Ghana, explained that the promotion was launched to reward customer loyalty. “M'Ahitti Promo is our way of rewarding that loyalty in a meaningful way,” she said.
Telecel will name three millionaires over the next four months, announcing a new winner each month. The campaign will also reward 12,000 daily draw winners with GH¢100 each, 48 weekly winners with GH¢20,000 each, and three grand prize winners with GH¢1 million each. Every GH¢10 or more recharge, bundle purchase or cash deposit earns entries, with Telecel Cash and the Telecel Play App offering additional and double entries.
Telecel’s Ashanti and Bono Regional Executive, Kwaku Asiedu, confirmed the promotion’s authenticity and transparency, noting that it is run in partnership with the Ghana National Lottery Authority, which oversees all draws. Christiana Antwi of the NLA added that the authority provides regulatory oversight to ensure integrity.
Adiza’s daughter urged Ghanaians to participate, saying anyone could become the next winner. Telecel also reminded customers to stay vigilant, stressing that participation is free and winners will never be asked to pay or share their Telecel Cash PIN before receiving prizes.
