The Adenta‑Abokobi Divisional Police Command is probing a shooting at Ritz Junction that left two people with gunshot wounds. The incident took place on Sunday, October 11, after a clash between General Sergeant Mathew Aboase, stationed at Madina Police Station, and drivers of the Ritz Junction Taxi Drivers Union.

Preliminary reports say the confrontation escalated when the officer allegedly brandished his pistol, prompting the drivers to try to disarm him. During the struggle the weapon reportedly fired accidentally, striking two bystanders.

The victims, identified as Doe Asinyo and 34‑year‑old Gifty Nyimahen, were taken to Madina Pentecost Hospital. Asinyo received a wound to his left thigh and was later discharged. Nyimahen sustained an abdominal injury, was admitted, and then transferred to Korle‑Bu Teaching Hospital for further care.

Police have retained the officer’s service pistol as evidence and are continuing the investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting. General Sergeant Aboase has been arrested and is currently in police custody pending further inquiries.
