Parliament has unanimously approved the nominations of the two ministerial nominees vetted by the Appointments Committee on Thursday.
They are the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, and the Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
The approval came after the House adopted the report of the Appointments Committee. Prior to the report's adoption, legislators on both sides of the House debated it and unanimously recommended the approval of their colleague nominees.
Soon after their approval, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, congratulated the two nominees. He, however, urged them to go the extra mile in resolving the various challenges facing their respective ministries.
Bagbin reminded the two ministers that their new responsibilities required them to combine their roles as legislators with their ministerial duties, and urged them to continue drawing on the experience and responsibilities they had previously carried in the House. "You are going to wear additional hats and that is not going to be easy," he said.
Turning to Ayariga, who is the immediate past Majority Leader, the Speaker reminded him that his new assignment would be particularly demanding. "And particularly my son, Honourable Mahama Ayariga, you have a very tall mountain to climb," he said.
