The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project closed the westbound carriageway of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction on Monday, 7 September 2026 to facilitate ongoing works. The move is expected to add pressure to Kaneshie, an area already battling heavy traffic.
GARID Project Coordinator Dr Ohene Sarfo told Accra‑based Citi FM that motorists without a Kaneshie destination should avoid the area as much as possible. “The traffic will build up, and it will really be inconvenient,” he said.
He recommended bypassing the affected stretch via Kwame Nkrumah Avenue through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North to the N1, or using Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman before exiting around Mallam and Sakaman. “Diverting traffic onto these routes will help reduce the volume heading toward Kaneshie and ease congestion around Pamprom Junction,” Sarfo added.
Motorists who must use the route are urged to cooperate with traffic management measures and follow diversion arrangements. “Your cooperation will help minimise delays and allow the construction works to be completed as quickly as possible,” he said.
The temporary closure is part of GARID’s broader interventions aimed at improving flood resilience and drainage infrastructure in the Greater Accra Region. Travelers on the Kaneshie‑Pamprom corridor are advised to plan their journeys, allow extra travel time, and, where possible, use alternative routes to avoid the expected congestion.
