Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George made a direct appeal to participants of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP) on Thursday, October 15, 2026, urging them to finish all three training levels. The call came during a site visit to the Ho Community Information Centre in the Volta Region, where the minister assessed progress, met learners and discussed implementation challenges.
The visit was attended by Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, the Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) Tanko Rashid Computer, and officials from the Ministry and GIFEC. Mr. George explained that the OMCP is divided into three progressive stages: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. While some trainees may be tempted to seek employment after the introductory level, employers increasingly demand more advanced technical skills.
He urged participants to advance through the full course, noting that completing all three stages could open opportunities both within Ghana and internationally, including remote work with foreign companies. The minister stressed that acquiring advanced skills is essential to meet the growing demand for digital talent in the competitive job market.
Mr. George encouraged learners to stay committed to the training, emphasizing that the programme’s success hinges on participants’ dedication. He also highlighted the importance of addressing any challenges that may impede progress, promising continued support from the Ministry and GIFEC.
As the programme moves forward, the minister’s message underscores a broader national strategy to boost digital skills and create a workforce ready for the global economy. Participants who complete all three levels will be better positioned to secure higher-paying roles and potentially work remotely for international firms.
