Acting IT and Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibrill, confirmed that the party will go ahead with the Nkwanta North Constituency executive elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24, despite a High Court injunction that seeks to restrain the exercise. Jibrill told Citi FM’s Eyewitness News that the party has not been formally served with the injunction and therefore continues preparations for the vote.

The High Court in Dambai, Oti Region, granted an interlocutory injunction after concerns were raised that some individuals presented as branch executives were not legitimate representatives. Jibrill maintained that “nobody has served us, and party headquarters, the general secretary, is running the election of the constituency.”

He acknowledged that members could seek legal redress but argued that court action would not automatically halt the party’s internal electoral processes. “You can go to court. Nobody can prevent anybody from going to court. But that doesn’t stop the election,” he said.

Jibrill cited the party’s internal guidelines, noting that only six per cent of branches in Nkwanta North had participated, while 63 per cent of the constituency had already begun the process. He said the guidelines allow delegate elections to proceed once a two‑thirds threshold is met.

He also accused some party members of using court action to disrupt the electoral process after failing to secure the outcomes they wanted, but said the party was prepared to engage them and explain the issues. “We will listen to them, have time for them and explain issues to them,” he added.

The injunction places the planned Nkwanta North Constituency executive elections in a legal dispute as the NDC prepares to conduct the exercise on Saturday.
