In a decisive turn of events, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost several incumbent executives in Techiman South during its constituency elections held at Ohene Ameyaw Park, Techiman, on Thursday. The elections concluded at 3 pm, with vote counting beginning immediately thereafter.

Kwasi Boakye emerged as the new constituency chairman, polling 1,203 votes against former chairman Saliu Alhaji Nuhu’s 653. Boakye, who won the communications officer seat with 1,296 votes over Hassan Balluka, also secured the secretary position with 1,277 votes, defeating four other candidates including incumbent Fosu Nsowaa. Pienaa Eric Kwame won the assistant secretary contest with 1,140 votes, surpassing incumbent Salifu Abdul Rashid.

Other incumbents unseated include Nuhu Abdul Razak, who defeated Zongo Caucus Coordinator Sa‑ad Osman 1,435 to 919, and Women’s Organiser Hajia Mariama, who retained her post with 106 votes in a close race. Her deputy, Hagar Amoah Yeboah, also held onto her position, polling 112 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Boakye called for unity and pledged to wrestle the Techiman South parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general election. “My biggest dream is to wrestle power from the NPP in the 2028 parliamentary elections,” he said. “Techiman South has eluded us for too long — but today, we begin the journey to reclaim what is rightfully ours.”

Delegates erupted in jubilation after the results were declared, dancing and singing in what many described as a new beginning for the NDC in the constituency. Boakye extended an olive branch to his opponents, urging the party to close ranks ahead of the 2028 battle. “Today is not about winners and losers. Today is about the NDC family in Techiman South,” he said. “Let us put the past behind us and work together.”

The NDC has not won Techiman South since 2016, losing the seat in 2020 by 477 votes and again in 2024 to NPP’s Martin Adjei‑Mensah Korsah. With a new executive in place, the party hopes to turn the tide. Bono East Regional Chairman Unas Owusu has publicly stated that the NDC will emerge victorious in Techiman South and all Bono East seats in 2028.

What follows is a concerted effort to build a cohesive, well‑organised party structure capable of mounting a serious challenge in a constituency that has slipped away for nearly a decade.
