Frank Boateng Brew, a member of the National Democratic Congress in the Bono Region, has filed a petition with the party’s regional elections authorities demanding an investigation into the eligibility of Dennis Yeboah Twumasi to contest the 2026 Bono Regional Executive Elections as Regional Secretary.
According to Brew’s petition, Twumasi currently holds, or has held, the post of Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration at Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT). Brew argues that this position places Twumasi within the group of government appointees who must resign from their appointments at least six clear months before filing nominations for internal executive positions, as stipulated by the party’s General Secretary.
The petition cites the party’s directive that applies to individuals appointed by the President or government, including ministers, deputy ministers, chief executive officers, managing directors and their deputies, as well as metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives. Brew also points to MMT’s official website, where Twumasi’s name appears on the management team list, as evidence of his appointment.
Brew requests that the Bono Regional Elections Directorate verify whether Twumasi has resigned from his MMT role. If he has, Brew wants the party to obtain a certified true copy of the resignation letter acknowledged by the company to confirm compliance. He further cites the disqualification of Dzifa Gunu in the La Dadekotopon Constituency for allegedly failing to resign six months before filing her nomination as a precedent for consistent application of the rules.
In his petition, Brew stresses that his motive is not personal animosity but the promotion of fairness, transparency, equal treatment and strict adherence to the party’s guidelines. Copies of the petition have been sent to the NDC General Secretary in Accra, the National Elections Directorate, the Bono Regional Vetting Committee and to Mr Twumasi himself.
As of now, the Bono Regional Elections Directorate has not responded, and Twumasi’s resignation status remains unverified. The matter will be decided by the party’s appropriate electoral authorities.
