Nana Boakye Clarifies Kojo Bamba Was Not His Driver or Bodyguard

On Thursday, October 15, Henry Nana Boakye, the New Patriotic Party’s second vice chairman, dismissed claims that Kojo Fosu Boadu, better known as Kojo Bamba, had once served as his driver or bodyguard. Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Boakye clarified that Bamba was instead in charge of operations and security for the party’s National Youth Wing and later for the National Organiser’s office.

Boakye, who has worked with Bamba for more than a decade, said, "I have heard a lot of narratives that he was my driver; he was my bodyguard. He was never my driver. He was never my bodyguard. I rather appointed him to be in charge of the national youth wing’s operations and security. And again, when I was National Organiser, I appointed him again to be in charge of operations and security at the office of the National Organiser."

He added that Bamba’s experience and campaign message helped him win the First Vice Chairman seat during the NPP’s national executive elections in Kumasi on October 3, where he defeated 12 other candidates with 3,116 votes. Boakye expressed confidence that Bamba would bring a unique contribution to the party’s 2028 power bid and stressed the need for unity among the leadership.

Despite the clarification, Bamba’s election has attracted criticism over his alleged links to the Delta Force vigilante group. Boakye said the party’s leadership must work together, noting that they had already achieved results together over ten years.
