Luka Modric, who turns 41 this Wednesday, has confirmed he is not ready to hang up his international boots. The Croatia Football Association announced the 41‑year‑old midfielder will feature in the next Nations League matches, including a game against England.
Modric’s decision aligns with the return of former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, who previously led Croatia from 2006 to 2012. Bilic, who guided the side to the 2008 Euros qualification, said: "Of course, Luka's decision makes me extremely happy. We are all aware what he brings to Croatia, both on and off the pitch. I'm looking forward to working with him again, after 14 years, and we both share a strong ambition to keep Croatia a top, successful team, shoulder to shoulder with the best teams in the world."
Modric earned his first senior cap in March 2006, just before Bilic’s first stint as manager. Since then he has amassed 202 appearances, winning the Golden Ball at the 2018 World Cup and helping Croatia finish third in 2022. He was expected to retire after the last‑32 exit to Portugal, but has now opted to stay on.
The 2024 Nations League will see Croatia away to the Czech Republic on 26 September and Spain on 29 September, before hosting England on 3 October. The return fixture at Wembley is scheduled for 12 November. Modric, who currently plies his trade with AC Milan, will be a key figure for the national side in these fixtures.
