On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that Parliament will soon deliberate a fee for the Mobile Passport Application Centre initiative. The service, which allows applicants to obtain passports at home, office or other preferred locations, has gained popularity across the country.
Minister Ablakwa explained that the proposed fee would reflect the convenience of having passport officials travel to applicants’ locations to capture biometric data. He said the charge would be set at a level that covers transportation, logistics and other operational costs, and would be subject to parliamentary approval before implementation.
He added that the initiative is intended to generate additional revenue to support the renovation, maintenance and development of passport application centres nationwide. The ministry is also planning to procure additional mobile application kits and biometric capture equipment in the 2027 national budget to meet growing demand.
The Minister highlighted that the mobile service would particularly benefit elderly persons, the sick, busy professionals, traders and entrepreneurs who find it difficult to visit passport centres in person. He noted that revenue from the initiative would contribute to the Ministry’s internally generated funds, helping to finance infrastructure improvements and sustain passport operations across Ghana.
Parliament will consider the fee proposal in an upcoming session, with the Ministry weighing transportation and operational costs as part of the decision-making process.
