On September 29, 2026, a petition was filed with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) by a consortium of importers demanding an urgent investigation into the disappearance of 28 containers at Tema Port. The petition, addressed to the Commissioner‑General of the GRA, alleges that the containers, which were at various stages of clearance, were found to be empty, missing, transferred or moved out of the port without the owners’ knowledge.
The importers listed the affected containers by their bill of lading numbers and described the situation as follows: “Twenty‑eight (28) containers at various stages of clearance were found to be empty, missing, transferred and/or moved out of the port without the knowledge of the owners.” The petition also called for a thorough inquiry into the removal and transfer of the containers.

Earlier, an official complaint had been lodged with the Tema Regional Police Command, leading to the arrest of several individuals allegedly linked to the incident. The incident reportedly came to light when some owners discovered their goods being offloaded from one of the containers into a warehouse near the GHACEM area in Tema.

The importers have offered to cooperate with the GRA and other relevant authorities throughout the investigation. The petition includes a detailed list of the affected containers and their respective statuses as established by the importers.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and authorities determine the cause of the alleged unauthorized removal and diversion of the containers.
