On August 28, 2026, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection unveiled Marrify, a new mobile application designed to allow Ghanaians to confirm the marital status of prospective partners before entering into marriage. The launch took place in Accra, with the ministry partnering with Marry Right Ghana to bring the platform to the public.
Marrify functions as a searchable digital registry that aggregates legal data from the Registrar‑General’s Department, courts, local assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette. Users can input a name and receive up‑to‑date information on whether the individual is currently married, divorced, or widowed.
Beyond personal checks, the app offers a publicly searchable database that lets anyone verify whether a marriage venue, church, pastor, or imam is duly licensed and registered to conduct marriages in Ghana. This feature aims to curb unlicensed ceremonies and ensure that couples are wed in legally recognized settings.
The initiative is positioned as a tool to prevent emotional, financial, and legal complications that arise when critical information about a prospective partner is not properly verified. By providing transparent access to marriage records, Marrify seeks to empower couples to make informed decisions before committing to marriage.
During the launch, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, praised Marry Right Ghana for introducing an initiative that strengthens transparency, accountability, and public confidence in marriage administration. She highlighted that marriage extends beyond a legal union, underscoring its social, cultural and economic significance for individuals, children, families and communities.
As the app goes live, users are encouraged to explore its features and share feedback with the ministry. The government plans to monitor the platform’s impact on reducing unregistered marriages and improving the integrity of marriage records across the country.
