The Western Regional Marine Police Command has mobilised a joint effort with the Ghana Navy, Ghana Maritime Authority, Fisheries Commission and local fishing communities to locate the missing fishing canoe Second Chance and its seven crew members. The vessel, owned by Nana Kweku Atta, departed Sekondi Fishing Harbour on 9 October for an offshore expedition near Axim but has not returned.

Chief Superintendent Olivia Et Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Region, confirmed the disappearance in a statement issued on Tuesday, 20 October. Preliminary investigations show repeated attempts to contact the crew have failed, and the canoe may have suffered engine failure, drifting toward Tema and the Volta coast. Its last confirmed position remains unknown.

The search now covers several coastal areas, with the Western Naval Command, Ghana Maritime Authority, Fisheries Commission, relevant coastal police stations and chief fishermen all alerted to assist. The Eastern Naval Command in Tema has also been notified to support the operation.

Fishing communities along the coast have been urged to report any sightings or information to the nearest police station. The seven crew members remain unaccounted for as authorities continue the search. The Marine Police have appealed to fishermen and coastal residents for any credible information that could help locate Second Chance and its crew.
