On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Makeup Ghana convened a Stakeholder Technical Workshop at the West African Genetic Medicine Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, to kick‑start the inaugural Ghana Beauty & Wellness Report. The event brought together representatives from government ministries, regulatory bodies, academia, financial institutions, development partners, industry associations, training institutes and the private sector.
The workshop was part of the 10th Ghana Beauty Awards celebrations under the theme “10 Years of Impact: The Legacy Era.” The report aims to be the first comprehensive, evidence‑based assessment of Ghana’s beauty and wellness industry, filling a long‑standing gap in reliable data and documentation.

Founder and CEO Lady Rebecca Donkor said the industry has become a major employer of young people and women, a driver of entrepreneurship and a contributor to Ghana’s creative economy, yet it remains largely undocumented. “For years we have spoken about the size and potential of Ghana's beauty and wellness industry. This Report is about giving those conversations an evidence base,” she told participants.
Professor Sheena Lovia Boateng, Associate Professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the College of Humanities, University of Ghana, chairs the steering committee and will guide the research methodology. The committee includes Ms. Nana Efua Tweneboah‑Boateng of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Marie‑Noelle Yakubu of Marie Noelle Spa, Ms. Violet Awo Amoabeng of Skin Gourmet, Ms. Siran Mahama of Reviv Ghana, Dr. Sandra Esi Odonkor of Everything Beauty GH, Ms. Tina Yirenkyi of GHABA, Ms. Valerie Lawson, and Mr. Stephan Eyeson of Safiyo AI.

Participants identified key thematic areas for the report: industry size and structure, economic contribution, employment potential, business profiles, skills development, training standards, regulation, access to finance, local manufacturing, consumer behaviour and market trends. A consensus emerged for stronger regulation, improved training, affordable financing for SMEs and policy support for locally manufactured products.
Following the workshop, the steering committee will refine the research framework, collect data, conduct broader consultations and compile the report. Makeup Ghana is calling on businesses, brands, institutions and development partners to support the initiative through sponsorship, data contributions or other forms of partnership.
