President John Mahama announced on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, that Dr Abdul‑Baasit Aziz‑Bamba has been appointed Acting Director‑General of the Value for Money Office (VFM). The move follows Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).
Aziz‑Bamba will serve in an acting capacity until the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission, is received. Prior to this appointment he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.

The Value for Money Office is mandated to ensure that public expenditure delivers value and serves the public good. The appointment signals the administration’s intent to strengthen oversight of government spending.
Observers note that the acting appointment allows the presidency to maintain continuity while the formal appointment process completes. The public will be watching how the VFM’s work evolves under Aziz‑Bamba’s interim leadership.
