Madina Market Begins Redevelopment with Demolition of Old Council Building

The La Nkwantanang‑Madina Municipal Assembly has commenced the demolition of the old Madina Zonal Council building inside Madina Market as the first step toward a new 24‑hour market. The move is part of a broader plan to increase trading space, upgrade facilities, and create a more organised commercial environment in the bustling market.

Traders will now have access to a temporary trading area near the existing market, a measure the Assembly says will minimise disruption while the new facility is constructed. The temporary arrangement is intended to allow affected traders to continue their businesses while work progresses.

Once completed, the 24‑hour market is expected to accommodate more traders and provide improved amenities to support their businesses, fostering a more conducive environment for commerce in the area.
