An unattended fire near the Methodist Primary School in Larteh Akuapem, Eastern Region, triggered a gas explosion that threatened the surrounding area. Residents quickly alerted the Ghana National Fire Service, which arrived within minutes to prevent the situation from escalating.
Firefighters deployed cooling techniques and other suppression methods to bring the explosion under control, ensuring that the blast did not cause further damage or casualties. After the immediate threat was neutralised, personnel secured the affected area and declared it safe following a thorough check of the site.
No further escalation was reported after the emergency response team had contained the incident. In a separate but related event in the Eastern Region, firefighters also tackled a fire at Kwamoso, where a detached single‑room building was being used as a storage facility. The New Juaben North Municipal Fire Station responded and brought that fire under control within 16 minutes of arrival, extinguishing it shortly thereafter.
Both incidents highlight the rapid response capabilities of the Ghana National Fire Service in safeguarding communities from fire and explosion hazards. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any unattended fires immediately to prevent similar emergencies in the future.
