Lapaz Driver Remanded Over Alleged Sale of 70 Unregistered Drug Tablets

Fatawu Yakubu, a 38‑year‑old driver from Lapaz, Accra, has been remanded into police custody by the Accra Circuit Court after police officers seized 70 tablets of suspected unregistered Royal Tapentadol 250 mg from his possession at a game centre on October 15, 2026.

The officers, part of the Inspector‑General of Police Special Operations Team, conducted an operation at Nii Bio Town Junction to clamp down on illicit drug peddlers and users. During the raid, Yakubu was arrested and a search revealed the tablets.

The court denied his plea for release and ordered him to remain in custody until his next appearance on November 3, 2026. The seized tablets are being forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and a formal report.

Yakubu is charged with offering unregistered drugs for sale. The prosecution maintains that the tablets were unregistered and that the operation was part of a broader effort to curb drug trafficking in the area.
