Police in Barekese arrested Sister Afia on Thursday, September 3, after she allegedly bit the ear of her tenant, Yaa Achiaa, during a heated confrontation in Fufuo, a suburb of Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The altercation stemmed from a dispute over the children of the two households. According to the victim’s family, the disagreement began on Monday, August 31, but the physical fight erupted on Thursday.
Blessing Osei, the eldest daughter of Yaa Achiaa, told reporters that Sister Afia bit her mother’s ear, leaving her injured. Residents intervened and separated the two women before the landlord’s wife and her husband went to the Barekese Police Station to lodge a complaint. While the mother was taken to Barekese Hospital for treatment, Sister Afia was arrested.
Osei alleged that the landlord’s wife had repeatedly verbally abused her mother prior to the latest confrontation and that she attacked and threatened Osei when she tried to intervene. The incident and competing accounts are now part of an ongoing police investigation.
Yaa Achiaa is receiving medical care at Barekese Hospital, while Sister Afia remains in police custody as authorities probe the incident.
