Paris Saint‑Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during the club’s 4‑2 Champions League victory over Barcelona on Tuesday. The 25‑year‑old sustained the injury during a challenge with Xavi Espart and was unable to put weight on his right leg, leading to his substitution in the 59th minute.
PSG has not yet set a timetable for his return to action. In an Instagram statement, Kvaratskhelia said, “Before every game I play, I ask God to leave the field healthy, but in vain. I probably prepared for this game the best I have ever prepared for. I thought I was prepared for everything. I realise that God chose me and if I protected the players on another field, I’m ready to go through these months of hard work, pain, tears. I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back. I won’t let you down, I promise, I won’t waste a second.”
The Georgia international, who joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025, has appeared 11 times for the club this season and helped secure back‑to‑back Champions League titles. PSG also confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will be sidelined for a few weeks with thigh injuries. The match at Parc des Princes was level 2‑2 heading into the final 10 minutes before Barcelona scored twice late on to maintain their winning start to their Champions League defence. PSG sit top of the table with three wins from three matches.
