Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, has called on the government and the Ministry of Education to urgently tackle the infrastructure gaps plaguing senior high schools across the country. He warned that inadequate classrooms, overcrowding and a lack of proper sleeping facilities continue to hinder effective teaching and learning.
During a visit to the Sekyere Kumawu District, where he supplied 500 BECE candidates with essential items, Mr Anim noted that many students are forced to share beds or sleep in unsuitable conditions. He urged increased investment in educational infrastructure to create safe and conducive learning environments.
Mr Anim also appealed for stronger measures to motivate teachers and improve their working conditions, arguing that motivated educators are essential for delivering quality education and preparing students to become responsible citizens. He condemned sexual relationships between teachers and students, calling such conduct unacceptable and demanding tighter monitoring and supervision by the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education.
He stressed that headteachers, supervisors and other education authorities must ensure that teachers act professionally and safeguard students’ welfare. “Investing in human capital is a top priority,” he said, hoping that beneficiaries of his support will eventually become doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers, teachers and other professionals who contribute to the district and national development.
Mr Anim concluded that producing educated, productive and financially independent young people would be one of the greatest legacies of his service to the constituency. The MP’s remarks come as Ghana seeks to meet its education targets amid ongoing infrastructure challenges.
