Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler slammed his team’s display after the Porcupine Warriors were held to a 2‑2 draw by debutants Debibi United in the opening round of the Ghana Premier League. The match, played at Kotoko’s home ground, saw Debibi take an early lead when Yakubu Dogo scored in the 15th minute. Kotoko fought back in the second half, with Richard Owusu netting a brace to put the home side 2‑1 ahead before Hubert Gyau levelled the score in the 79th minute.
In a post‑match interview, Tinkler admitted the team “didn’t do enough to win this game.” He added that the side’s ball‑handling was “very poor” and that they “kept giving the ball away,” making the game difficult for themselves. “A draw is a fair outcome,” he said, acknowledging the result but expressing disappointment with the performance.
The 2‑2 tie leaves Kotoko in seventh place after the first round of fixtures. The club will now focus on their next league match, when they host Heart of Lions. The outcome of that encounter could be crucial as Kotoko look to climb the table in the early stages of the season.
