A fire that erupted around 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, destroyed a one‑storey building that housed several shops and residential apartments adjacent to the Jackson Park traffic light in Koforidua’s central business district. The blaze gutted the premises next to the Koforidua Central Market, including the well‑known Kwaku Showboy Boutique, Mama Pee Collections and other properties.

Firefighters from the New Juaben Metro and Eastern Regional commands of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived promptly after distress calls from residents and managed to contain the blaze, though the damage was extensive. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with witnesses reporting that they alerted the fire service immediately after seeing the outbreak.
The incident left shop owners assessing losses that reportedly amount to millions of cedis. The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, together with the Municipal Chief Executives for New Juaben South and North, Ransford Owusu Boakye and Samuel Adongo, joined the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu‑Bempah, and his deputy at the scene during the rescue operation.

A firefighter sustained injuries when struck by falling debris and is receiving treatment at Central Hospital. The Ghana National Fire Service and the Police have launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire. The site has been cordoned off while affected business owners work to assess the extent of the damage and account for their losses.
