In the 8th edition of the Luv FM Kel‑Charcoal Toothpaste High School Debate, KNUST Senior High School (KNUST SHS) emerged victorious over Osei Adutwum Senior High School (OSASS) with a 254‑239 score.
The final motion, “Ghana’s biggest problem is not bad leaders but bad citizens,” saw KNUST SHS’s principal speaker, Ernestina Achiaa, deliver a compelling counter‑argument that citizens cannot be blamed for bad leadership and corruption at the highest level.
OSASS opened with enthusiasm, grounding their points in real‑world examples and sharp counter‑points. After a tense round of rebuttals, the judges awarded KNUST SHS a unanimous win, marking a sweet redemption for the team that had been eliminated in the semi‑finals in previous editions.
Ernestina was named the overall best debater of the competition, saying, “I may have fallen short last year but I put in the work and now I have made it to just where I want to be. Indeed, I am lost for words.”
The semi‑final saw KNUST SHS defeat traditional powerhouse Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, securing their place in the final. Osei Kyeretwie SHS later placed third after a match‑up against Church of Christ SHS.
All four schools have secured spots at the next edition of the debate competition. The event was sponsored by Kel‑Charcoal Toothpaste, Didi Shito, Bigoo, The Seed Travelz, Serpo Mystical Pen, Verna Mineral Water, Jackson University College, Tamak, St. Ben Jewelry, Otuasekan Community Bank, and New Generation Investment Services.
